Manny Machado named All-Star, adds to historic career

SAN DIEGO (KYMA, KECY) - Manny Machado is headed back to the Midsummer Classic this time as the National League's starting third baseman.
The San Diego Padres star earned his seventh career All-Star selection and fourth time starting.
Machado beat out the Dodgers' Max Muncy in the final round of fan voting, securing the starting nod at third for the July 15 All-Star Game in Atlanta.
Despite a rocky season for the Padres as a team, Machado has remained a steady force in the lineup, leading San Diego in hits, OPS, and extra-base production.
This year's honor comes with added significance. Not only does it mark Machado's first All-Star appearance since 2022, it'll also be the first one he gets to share with his young son, born last April.
"That'll be special," he said.
Machado continues to chase career milestones approaching 2,000 hits and recently crossing the 350-home run threshold all while proving he's still one of the most complete players in baseball.
For the Padres, his consistency remains a cornerstone in a season still searching for momentum.
