City in Argentina beats Guinness World Record after roasting 9.5 tons of chicken

CONCEPCION DEL URUGUAY, Argentina (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - An impressive new Guinness World Record has been set after residents in Concepcion del Uruguay, Argentina, roasted 8,672 kilograms (9.55 US tons) of chicken for a charity event Saturday.

Footage provided by Dirección de Turismo Concepcion del Uruguay shows multiple rows of chickens roasting as residents gathered to celebrate the town's 242nd anniversary and the 60th anniversary of Fepasa, a poultry company that helped organized the event along with local authorities and volunteers.

Mayor José Eduardo Lauritto described it as an "an unforgettable day" for the area and lauded the organizers.

The previous record for the "largest serving of roast chicken" was set in the town of Maldonado, Uruguary, where 7,000 kilograms of chicken was roasted on a single day in March 2016, according to Guinness World Records.
