Friends and colleagues of Iowa news anchor remember her 30 years after she went missing
MASON CITY, Iowa (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - On June 27, 1995, Jodi Huisentruit, a morning news anchor at KIMT News 3, a CBS affiliate in Mason City, Iowa, did not make it to work.
Three decades later, there are still no clear answers about what happened to the then 27-year-old who was a familiar face in Mason City.
For the 30th anniversary, many of Huisentruit's friends and colleagues were here to pay their respects. For a lot of them, this case was a sad situation where the news anchor became the story.
Old co-workers shared memories of the initial coverage in the days after her disappearance and their hope for resolution.
Friends shared stories of Husentruit's natural confidence and passion for news.
30 years ago Friday, she didn't show up for her morning shift because the Mason City Police Department suspects someone kidnapped her from the parking lot of the keys apartment building where she lived.
Those who knew her best are begging for anyone who may know something to come forward.
"Yes its been 30 years, but the grief the anger, the frustration its all just as real today as it was 30 years ago," said Amy Kuns, former KIMT Morning Producer.
"By July 4th, we figured we'd probably know something, and that July 4th 1995," said Dan Clouse, former KIMT Reporter & News Director.
"There just shouldn't be a perfect crime that someone can get away with, there should always be justice not only for the family, but for those of us who knew her and also worked in this industry," said Dennis Higgins, KIMT Engineer.
The "Find Jodi" team asked the Mason City community to leave a porch light on in solidarity for Huisentruit later that night to show that there are still people who want answers and for Huisentruit to come home.
