Man dies in officer-involved shooting in Colorado

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - A man is dead after trading fire with police officers outside a southeast Colorado Springs apartment complex early Monday morning.

According to Colorado Springs Police Department spokesperson Daniel Short, 911 calls started coming in just after 1:00 a.m. Mountain, reporting gunshots in the area of Michelle Court, just east of South Academy and Fountain.

When police pulled up to the Antero Apartments, they found a man with a gun.

After ordering him to drop the weapon, Short says the suspect instead aimed the gun at the officers and fired at least one shot. Two officers returned fire, hitting and ultimately killing the suspect.

"No other community members or officers were injured during this incident," Short said. "Officers are still investigating, we have [a] portion of the apartment complex blocked off at this time. But right no, it's safe."
