Tatis powers Padres to win with three-run homer against Royals
SAN DIEGO (KYMA, KECY) - After dropping the series opener at home, the Padres bounced back Saturday night in a big way, taking down the Kansas City Royals 5–1 behind a long-awaited blast from Fernando Tatis Jr.
Tatis snapped a month-long homer drought with a towering three-run shot in the seventh inning, his 14th of the season.
The clutch swing came after back-to-back singles from Jose Iglesias and Bryce Johnson, pushing a one-run lead to a comfortable cushion.
San Diego's offense came to life early as well, with Jake Cronenworth plating a run on a groundout in the second and Luis Arraez putting the Padres ahead for good with an RBI single in the third.
On the mound, Dylan Cease delivered one of his best outings of the season. He scattered three hits over 6.2 innings, allowing just one run while striking out four. Adrian Morejon cleaned up the final five outs to preserve the win.
San Diego improved to 3–7 in their last 10 games and will look to win the series in Sunday's rubber match with Randy Vasquez scheduled to start.
