San Pasqual Football hosts 7-on-7 Tournament

WINTERHAVEN, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Offseason football took center stage Saturday as San Pasqual High School welcomed teams from across the region for a summer 7-on-7 tournament at Warrior Field.

Programs from as far as Fort Mohave, Somerton, and Brawley made the trip to Yuma to compete in a full day of passing reps and lineman challenges.

Local teams from Yuma High School, Kofa, and Desert Star Academy also took part, using the day to sharpen skills and build chemistry ahead of the fall season.

Brawley High School finished the day as 7-on-7 champions, while Somerton earned the top spot in the lineman challenge. As for the host Warriors, they showed steady improvement throughout the day, finishing undefeated and earning wins over all three Yuma schools.

Yuma quarterback and defensive lineman David Argomaniz said, "you know, get timing correctly. You get offensive playbook analysis and all that stuff. It's great. I love it. I love being in the bottom, the bottom of Arizona. A lot of people don't really look here, but you know, the people that do, you know, they're surprised, there is a talent here yeah, it's pretty awesome."

Somerton running back and defensive back Jose Polino added, "this is our first time going to a 7-on-7 event, and I'm enjoying it. We're just trying to see where we're at compared to everyone else and practice our, our skills."

The tournament began at 9 a.m. and was open to the public, offering fans a summer preview of what to expect from their hometown teams this fall.
