Hot and dry week ahead for Yuma and Imperial Counties
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma and Imperial Counties are in for a stretch of very hot and dry weather this week.
A strong high-pressure system is keeping the heat locked in across the region. Temperatures are expected to climb well above normal, with highs likely reaching 110°F or more in many areas, especially in Imperial County. Yuma has a slightly lower chance, but it will still be very hot.
The National Weather Service is warning of a moderate heat risk across the lower desert areas through at least midweek. People are urged to stay cool, drink plenty of water, and avoid outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day.
There’s no rain in the forecast, and skies will stay mostly clear. Winds will stay light overall but could become breezy in the afternoon and evening, especially in Imperial County. No major weather issues are expected for air travel.
Humidity will stay low, dropping into the single digits Monday, and only slightly higher for the rest of the week. Fire danger could rise slightly by the end of the week due to dry air and occasional gusty winds.
Looking ahead, there could be another increase in heat next weekend, with even hotter temperatures possible. Stay tuned for updates and take care during this stretch of extreme heat.
