Arizona baseball stuns UNC to force Game 3 in Super Regional

KYMA

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (KYMA, KECY) - After getting run off the field in a lopsided 18-2 loss in Game 1, the Arizona Wildcats came roaring back Saturday to defeat No. 1 seed North Carolina 10-8 and force a decisive Game 3 in the NCAA Super Regionals.

In a wild, back-and-forth slugfest, Arizona rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh inning to take the lead for good. Maddox Mihalakis delivered the go-ahead two-run single, capping a stretch where Arizona erased an 8-6 deficit.

Earlier in the game, Tommy Splaine hit a two-run homer, and Aaron Walton sparked the offense with three hits. Brendan Summerhill added an RBI double in the rally.

UNC looked poised to sweep after a three-run homer from Tyson Bass put the Tar Heels in front during the sixth, but Arizona's bullpen held firm down the stretch. Tony Pluta earned the save with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.

Game 3 is scheduled for Sunday morning, with a ticket to Omaha on the line.
