D-Backs lose pitcher Corbin Burnes for remainder of the season

Diamondbacks ace to have Tommy John surgery on injured elbow

PHOENIX (KYMA, KECY) - The Arizona Diamondbacks will play out the remainder of the season without pitching ace Corbin Burnes.

The righthanded pitcher is set for Tommy John surgery. The injury took place this past Sunday against the Washington Nationals.

The Diamondbacks initially placed Burnes on the 15-day injured list while seeking a second opinion on his elbow.

In his first season with Arizona, Burnes is 3-2 with a 2.66 ERA in 11 starts.

The Diamondbacks signed the free agent to a six-year, $210 million contract this past offseason.
