Central soccer awarded their CIF SDS championship rings
Central holds a ceremony to award their CIF SDS Champion boy's soccer team.
EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The 2024-25 Central boy's soccer team made history, winning their first CIF San Diego Section championship since 1989.
The Spartans' run through the postseason saw them advance all the way to Southern California State Championship Game, farther than any Imperial Valley team ever.
"My dad went here and my grandparents went here," Central senior captain Lorenzo Valenzuela the history we have and I just really wanted to replicate that but what my dad couldn't do. I really wanted to, you know, be an athlete. I just love being a spartan and now made history and I'm forever in the history books
On Tuesday, the Spartans' achievements were honored in a ceremony, where the team was awarded their championship rings.
"I'm very happy [with what we accomplished]," senior captain Angel Sandoval said. "We got to we got to work and just stayed together as a team the whole year. We just built a great foundation and a great family."
Central graduates 10 seniors from this squad. However, the Spartans have plenty of youth with seven freshman playing on the varsity team this season.
