Home explosion in Missouri kills one person and one dog

GLADSTONE, Mo. (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - A deadly home explosion killed one person and a dog in a Kansas City suburb Saturday, prompting the evacuation of adjacent homes, according to officials and news outlets in the area.

Fire officials said they responded to a "powerful explosion" at a home in Gladstone and found one unidentified body at the scene. The area was later secured after adjacent homes were evacuated.

Ring camera footage from Ashleigh Tomlin shows debris flying through the air after the single-family home exploded.

Tomlin, who lives next door to the home, told a CBS affiliate in Kansas City she initially thought the explosion was from a bomb. She later captured photos showing the destroyed home.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation, fire officials said.
