Multiple people injured in fire attack in Colorado
BOULDER, Colo. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - A man is in custody after being accused of setting a group of people on fire in Boulder, Colorado Sunday afternoon.
An NBC affiliate in Denver said it happened at an outdoor event intended to raise awareness about Israeli hostages in Gaza.
Miri Kornfield, the organizer for the event, said a man holding bottles was waiting for them, with Kornfield saying the man threw the bottles and five people were burned, including one woman who was badly burned and had to roll on the ground to put out the fire.
The victims were taken to the hospital, and there is no word on their condition.
A suspect was taken into custody without incident.
"A suspect was pointed out to our officers on the scene...that suspect, who I'm not able to identify at this time, was taken to the hospital with some minor injuries as well," said Chief Stephen Redfearn with the Boulder Police Department.
One eyewitness, Brooke Coffman, described what she saw at the time.
"I saw like this big fire go up and it looked like a lot of the front area of the courthouse, like the grass, I think it's like cement too right there, was on fire.
I jumped over this tiny little fence over to these two ladies on the grass two older ladies rolling around a little bit, they were in their underwear cause they had stripped their pants off obviously. I was like how can I help and they had like really bad burns on their legs and I went over to this other grass area by the front entrance and there was another lady on the ground with bad burns on her legs like screaming.
We look over and see this guy just shirtless screaming stuff I couldn't make out anything he was saying he was just screaming and he had like a container or like a glass with gasoline in it I'm assuming and he was just holding that and waving it around."

The FBI is on the scene, with FBI Director Kash Patel posting on X calling the incident "a targeted terror attack."
