Latest on the parade crash in Liverpool
LIVERPOOL, England (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - British police were holding a 53-year-old man over a crash which turned a soccer celebration in Liverpool to tragedy and sent more than two dozen of people to hospitals.
On Monday, fans of Liverpool F.C. attended a joyful championship parade to celebrate their team's victory in the English Premier League, but on Tuesday, it's a major crime scene.
Police are investigating how a dark minivan came crashing into the crowd, injuring nearly 50 people, including several children.
One of those kids was trapped underneath the van when firefighters arrived, and they had to pull the small child out from underneath.
Police have arrested the driver of the minivan. They're saying he's a 53 year old white man from the Liverpool area.
Authorities are saying they are not treating this as an act of terrorism, and they believe this was an isolated incident.
They are not seeking anyone else at this time, but they aren't saying what the potential motivation is at this point.
So a lot of questions remain unanswered, including how this van was able to access the parade route.
The team anthem of Liverpool is "You'll never walk alone," and there is a real feeling in the city where people are supporting each other at this time of tragedy.
