12 people injured after large tree falls during graduation ceremony in California

PLEASANT HILL, Calif. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - A large tree came crashing down during graduation ceremonies at Diablo Valley College in California Friday evening, injuring a dozen people.

College officials say the tree fell on a nearby walkway, hitting bystanders who were watching the commencement.

Two people were taken to a hospital. No word on their condition, but witness say they were talking while being loaded into ambulances.

It's unclear why the tree fell as the National Weather Service says wind gusts that night were not unusual.
