Southwest baseball out-slugged in playoff opener

Southwest baseball falls at home to Mt. Carmel and now faces playoff elimination.

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Bryce Miller hit two home runs to lead the Mt. Carmel Sundevils to a 18-8 victory over the Southwest Eagles in the CIF San Diego Section Division III Playoffs on Wednesday.

Mt. Carmel advances to the next round. Southwest now heads to an elimination game.

After the first, Southwest led 2-1. In the top of the second, Chase Mendoza hit a two-run RBI double to give the Sundevils a one run lead. In the bottom of the inning, Jose Salcido hit a solo home run to tie the game.

In the fourth, Miller hit a grand slam to give Mt. Carmel an 8-3 lead. Southwest would respond scoring three runs in the bottom of the inning, but the Eagles were no match for the Sundevil offense. Mt. Carmel would continue to light up the scoreboard and run away with a 18-8 victory.

Southwest now heads to an elimination game on Friday against Mission Hills. Mt. Carmel advances and will face Coronado.
