Congressman Raul Ruiz delivers remarks on Palm Springs explosion
WASHINGTON (KYMA, KECY) - Congressman Raul Ruiz (D-Calif.) delivered remarks on the floor of the House of Representatives Monday regarding the devastating Palm Springs explosion.
"Palm Springs is strong. The people are beautiful, resilient, inclusive, accepting, and cherish their community. All law enforcement and first responders acted with courage, professionalism, and excellence. Thanks to the rapid response, all those injured in the bombing have been released from the hospital, and Palm Springs is safe. To the people of Palm Springs, my heart is with you, and I stand by you."
Rep. Raul Ruiz (D-Calif.)
The FBI officially identified the suspect as 25-year-old Guy Edward Bartkus, and says he died when his car exploded outside the American Reproductive Centers at around 11:00 a.m. Saturday.
However, the clinic's doctor says eggs, embryos and reproductive material were saved.
Two senior law enforcement officials said Bartkus appeared to have been driven by an anti-natalist ideology, a belief that no one should have children.
In addition, an NBC affiliate in Palm Springs spoke with a resident who found a potential bomb component near the blast site, and says the resident later turned it over to the authorities.
The investigation is still ongoing.
