At least 14 dead following severe storms in Kentucky

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - At least 14 people were killed in severe storms in Kentucky overnight, with the number expected to grow, Governor Andy Beshear said on Saturday.

Footage released by Laurel County authorities shows what they described as the aftermath of a tornado in the Sunshine Hills area of Laurel County, and a resident recounted her experience of the severe weather event.

"[My family and I] went to the hallway, and we were in there maybe about two minutes because that's the closest areas we have, and then my husband and my son come running in and pretty much jump on top of [my daughter] because you could feel the air and everything stuck in and it sounded like tree and then we saw stuff falling and the next thing we knew, he said, 'Most of the house was gone,'" the resident said.

Local authorities said multiple injuries had been reported and said homes were being searched in the area around the City of London.

A tornado warning had been in effect overnight for the area.

Thousands remained without power as of Saturday morning, according to outage trackers.
