Georgia woman speaks about surviving a blizzard in the California mountains

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - Tiffany Slaton, the 27-year-old woman who survived more than two weeks stranded by a blizzard in the the California mountains, is speaking about her experience.

"I had pretty much fallen off of a cliff trying to go on vacation for the first time. I may never do a real vacation longer than three days ever again," Slaton expressed.

Slaton was found safe in a cabin at the Vermilion Valley Resort in the Sierra Nevada mountain range.

According to the Fresno County Sheriff's Office (FCSO), the resort's owner found Slaton after snowplows cleared the road for him to access and open his property for the summer.

Slaton was found dehydrated, "but otherwise in good condition," authorities said.

She was taken to a hospital for observation, but has since been discharged.

Slaton says she survived on foraged leeks and melted snow.

"I'm pretty good at forging and nature is quite terrifying, so usually, once you start finding things that are scary for you, you do your best to keep moving and get over it. And because of the mountains, I literally got over quite a few of them," Slaton shared.

"We raised our kids to the outdoor camper type people. Tiffany got the love of foraging and gardening and plants and Bunsen from her mother and I, because that's what we do on our farm. We have a micro-farm in Georgia," said Bobby Slaton, Tiffany's father.

She also took shelter the cabin after she was unable to call 911 or get GPS directions.

"Of course, like a normal person, the first thing we were supposed to do is call 911, and I attended that four, five times with no avail, and eventually got mad at my GPS and decided to ask, 'Well, where's the nearest Starbucks?' He's like, 'Oh, well, we can answer that question. It's 18 miles from here.' You can't get me 911, you can't get me GPS, but you can get me a Starbucks."
