WEATHER AUTHORITY FIRST ALERT: Strong winds and dust for Saturday

A lower pressure system arrives this weekend, bringing in gustier winds and dust here in the Desert Southwest. This will call for a First Alert Action Day Saturday for both Yuma and Imperial Valley.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Another lower pressure system will move in this weekend which will bring back gusty winds and dust on Saturday followed by cooler temperatures on Sunday.

With the strong west and southwest winds and dust I am issuing a Weather Authority First Alert Action Day late Saturday afternoon through early Sunday morning for Yuma and Imperial Counties.

Winds will pick up late in the after Saturday and continue through early Sunday morning with gusts 20-45 MPH. Yuma County will have breezy conditions and not really stronger winds, however the stronger winds will favor toward the west

Winds will lighten up on Sunday, but it will still be breezy throughout the day.

A Wind Advisory is issued for Imperial Valley and El Centro 4 pm Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday for gusts up to 50 MPH and blowing dust.

The Wind Advisory is issued 2 pm Saturday through 7 am Sunday in Ocotillo for wind gusts up to 55 MPH.

An Air Quality Alert is issued for parts of Yuma and Imperial Counties on Saturday due to the widespread blowing dust, and bringing unhealthy air quality concerns.

A First Alert Action Day will be in place for Saturday due to winds and dusts. Thankfully, winds will lighten up by Sunday, but it will still be breezy with cooler than normal temperatures.

Get ready! Tracking a big warm-up late next week with highs heating up into the low and mid 100s.
