New details on the head fatal head on crash that killed an elder woman
IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA KECY) - New details on the fatal head-on crash involving an infant.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) says a 71-year-old woman veered of the road and tried to over correct herself.
"She drove directly into the path into a Honda that was traveling southbound on Forester road," said Jose Marquez with CHP.
CHP says the woman crashed into a vehicle with a 31-year-old woman and her one-year-old daughter.
The Brawley Fire Department (BFD) says the call came in of a person trapped inside a burning vehicle. Â
"Fire department had to utilize heavy equipment like cutters and stuff like that to be able to free the person out of the vehicle once we took the person out. That's when we conducted a medical assessment just to verify that we had vital signs that we can work with," said Fire Deputy Chief Juan Rodelo, with BFD.
The 71-year-old woman died at the scene. The 31-year-old woman was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center with major injuries to her lower body while the baby girl suffered minor injuries.
"No major injuries were noted on the baby...that kinda lowered our priority and we could focus more on the mom," said Rodelo.
