Three dead, others missing after suspected panga boat overturned in Del Mar

DEL MAR, Calif. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - First responders are searching for survivors off the California coast after a suspected panga boat overturned.

According to first responders, the boat overturned off the coast of Del Mar with with an estimated 18 people on board.

"Approximately 6:37 this morning, we received an incident notification that we had a boat wash up on the beaches here of Del Mar, just north of Torrey Pines State Beach, and we had our resources respond, and we did find a boat that had washed up on The shore," said Encinitas Deputy Fire Chief Jorge Sanchez.

Three are confirmed to have died in the incident and four people were taken to the hospital.

Despite reports of missing people possibly in the water, the Coast Guard says they were not sure if anybody is still in the water at this point.

However, they were searching in order to do their due diligence.
