Guatemalan woman detained by CBP after giving birth in Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - An undocumented woman was detained by Border Patrol agents shortly after giving birth at Tucson Medical Center.

Protesters took to the streets as the mother and her newborn baby faced immediate deportation.

However, the woman was released from custody Saturday after federal officials decided to allow the woman to pursue her case before an immigration judge.

The woman is said to have arrived in the U.S. last week after crossing the border illegally and wandering in the desert for two days.

She was eventually transferred to ICE custody and reunited with her child.

Dozens of protesters gathered outside the hospital waving signs and calling out the Trump Administration's immigration policy.

"If we want to keep some immigrants out, and we want to control immigration, I'm not opposed to that, but we do have a thing called due process," said Frances Case, a protester.
