Matadors close out 2025 season with 6-4 victory over Central Arizona

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Arizona Western College (AWC) wrapped up its 2025 baseball season on a high note, taking down Central Arizona College 6-4 Saturday afternoon at Walt Kammann Baseball Field.

Despite falling behind early, the Matadors (35-20, 19-17 ACCAC) rallied with a big fourth inning, plating four runs without the benefit of a hit to flip the game in their favor.

Central Arizona (37-15, 22-14 ACCAC) had taken a 2-0 lead after three innings before Arizona Western sent 10 batters to the plate in the fourth.

Gerardo Castro put AWC on the board with an RBI groundout, followed by a bases-loaded walk to Kylian Bamberger and a run-scoring fielder's choice from Nathan Houston.

Bronson Neave capped the rally by drawing another bases-loaded walk, making it 4-2. Neave was a spark for the offense all game, going 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and two walks. He later came around to score in the eighth on a wild pitch after reaching base yet again.

The Matadors tacked on additional runs in the sixth and eighth innings, while the bullpen held off a late push from the Vaqueros. Gregorys Mateo earned the win on the mound, and Paul Medina notched the save with a steady finish.

Parker Husu also reached base three times for AWC, recording a single and drawing two walks.

With the win, the Matadors closed the book on a strong season, finishing above .500 in both overall and conference play.
