Cibola softball earns big win over Kofa, beats Kings 8-6

With postseason spots at stake, the Lady Raiders came up with their second straight win over Kofa

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Cibola softball (12-13) took down Kofa (6-14) 8-6 at home on Thursday night in a critical game to the Lady Raiders playoff chances.

Coming into the day ranked 21st in the 6A division, winning out would almost guarantee Cibola a spot in the play-in, making their matchup against the 24th ranked Lady Kings crucial.

Jumping out to a 7-4 lead in the first three innings, the Lady Raiders were able to hold off multiple comeback attempts from Kofa.

Cibola head coach Myliah Ramirez says as the season winds down it was nice to see her team win a game like Thursday's.

"It’s super big the girls have been working so hard all season, so it’s nice to see their hard work kind of show through," Ramirez said.

Freshman pitcher Eliana Correa was also a big part of the win, allowing four earned runs and striking out four in seven innings.

"We’re super proud of her and we’ve got her for three more years so it’s gonna be a lot of fun to watch her grow both physically and mentally so it’s really exciting," Ramirez said.

The win is also the fourth straight for the Lady Raiders, who also sit at first in the 6A Desert Southwest region thanks to their 4-2 region record and superior conference ranking.

An 8-6 score was also the closest margin of victory for Cibola during their win streak, but it's also something Ramirez knows will be beneficial going into the playoffs.

"You’re used to kind of having your backs up against the wall, so if you can get the job done, it kind of makes it easier in the long run," Ramirez said.

Only one game remains in the regular season for the Lady Raiders, as they'll welcome in Youngker on Monday April 28.
