Decades of love & saving lives: Local couple survives heart attack and stroke saving each other’s lives

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A local love story is still going strong after a couple saved each other's lives in medical emergencies.

Dirk and Sharon Anderson have been happily married for 45 years. But their love story isn't just about romance. It's about saving each other's lives.

Sharon survived a stroke and Dirk a heart attack.

Through their faith, love, and endurance to keep going despite life's obstacles, they share advice they wish they knew, to listen to their own bodies and seek medical help right away when something feels off.

"So pay attention to each other and play on that to where you notice things because she noticed things about me I didn't, and I noticed things about her, so it's a must. So preventative care," said Dirk.
