White House hosts Easter Egg Roll
WASHINGTON (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - Thousands of children were ready to roll Monday morning for an Easter extravaganza at the White House.
President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump hosted the Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn.
The annual festivities broke longstanding tradition in a few ways. Instead of plastic eggs filled with candy, the White House opted for real eggs, about 30,000 of them.
The event was also open to corporate branding, with Amazon, Meta, and YouTube being among the companies sponsoring various stations at the Egg Roll.
"Easter is special and it's one of our favorite days. It's one of our favorite periods of time. We're honoring Jesus Christ and we're gonna honor Jesus Christ very powerfully," President Trump expressed.
The president said they expected more than 40,000 people on the grounds throughout the day.
The White House Easter Egg Roll dates back to 1878, but the event has been paused for extraordinary circumstances, including both World Wars and the COVID-19 pandemic.
