Brawley Police brings more attention to Autism in the Valley
BRAWLEY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The Brawley Police Department held their annual Autism Awareness Horse Ride, an initiative dedicated to promoting awareness and support for autism.
Community members had the opportunity to meet law enforcement officials, pet the horses, and enjoy some sweet treats.
"When we're talking about law enforcement in our community, our horses are our best ambassadors so why not take our ambassadors into the city and talk to people" said U.S. Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino.
This horse ride was just one example of how the Imperial Valley community is championing their loved ones.
Attendee and parent of a child with autism, Gloria Brambila, advocate for children with autism in the Valley.
"I go to every city every year requesting a proclamation for World Autism Acceptance ,onth and that has been since 2017, every city has been kind and including the county has also adopted that proclamation which has brought forth so much more awareness and acceptance for our family, we've been on this journey for a while and I've seen the growth and knowledge in our communities" said Brambila.
As Autism Acceptance Month continues through April, events like these remind families they're not alone, and that support is growing across the Valley.
