First responders in Boston respond to truck crash

BOSTON (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - Several people were injured when a box truck crashed in downtown Boston Tuesday, striking several poles and a building, according to officials.

Police said the crash happened on Kneeland Street at the corner of Harrison Avenue, near Chinatown, at 12:48 p.m., local media reported.

Boston Emergency Medical Services (EMS) said four victims were transferred to local hospitals and two were evaluated at the scene.

The Boston Fire Department said the truck was left stuck on its side between a pole and a building.

"Firefighters used extrication tools to removed the trapped driver" from the truck's cab, they said.

In footage captured by the owner of a hair salon in the area, emergency responders are seen rushing to the scene.

Speaking to media, Boston's Police Commissioner Michael Cox said the crash appeared to be a "tragic accident," and Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said they had no reason "to believe this was an intentional act."

At least one victim was in critical condition, Cox said.
