City of El Centro and VFW Post 9305 honor Vietnam Veterans

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Vietnam War Veterans were honored Saturday as the City of El Centro and VFW Post 9305 held a special ceremony to commemorate Vietnam Veterans Day.

The event took place at Bucklin Park at 10:00 a.m., bringing together Veterans, community members, and local officials to recognize the service and sacrifice of those who fought in Vietnam.

Organizers say the ceremony also marked the anniversary of the final U.S. troops leaving Vietnam in 1973.

"Obama said when he was in, he made it a remembrance, but when Trump came in, he made it official that every March 29 would be recognized. In 2023, we marked the 50th anniversary of the last troops leaving Vietnam," said Augustin Saldana with VFW Post 9305.

After the ceremony, Veterans and their families gathered for a luncheon at the post, giving them a chance to share stories and reflect on their service.

Organizers say events, like the celebration, help ensure their legacy lives on.
