Hunter’s Army hosts Family Fun Day at FTS Automotive this Saturday!
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Hunter's Army, a local organization aimed at helping families who are battle with childhood cancer, will be hosting a family fun day taking place at FTS Automotive this Saturday.
Andrea Priest, one of the co-founders of Hunter's Army, says that it's important to assist families that go through childhood cancer, just like her son, Hunter.
"In 2017, our youngest son Hunter was diagnosed with cancer," said Priest. "We started to learn about the lack of resources here in Yuma for childhood cancer families and so we knew when Hunter got better we were going to do something with our story and make it a better journey for the families that would come after us."
Hunter's Army assists families with income replacement, living expenses, car repairs, food and fuel for treatment trips. Andrea and her husband Curtis say that the most important aspect of their organization is to help educate and help siblings of children going through cancer as they help navigate themselves throughout this dark and difficult time. They hope they are able to show them love and make the journey a little easier.
FTS Automotive will host a family fun day for Hunter's Army this Saturday for the fourth time. Owner Dan Mikles says that organizations like Hunter's Army are so important to have right here in our Yuma community.
"[Andrea] contacted me one day asking for $100 for her organization," said Mikles. "After I looked into the organization, I called Andrea and said, 'I'd like to raise $10,000 instead of $100.' In the last three years, we've raised over $34,000 for Hunter's Army.
FTS Automotive will have local first responders bring out their tactical equipment, some off-road race cars for the kids to enjoy and food will be provided by Chick-Fil-A.
There was also a silent auction and a live auction, where attendees could bid on stuffed animals, bikes and toy cars.
The event is free to attend, however a donation is recommended to help local families who are battling through childhood cancer.
Hunter's Army family fun day at FTS Automotive will take place Saturday, March 29th from 9 a.m. to noon.
FTS Automotive is located on 1701 South Arizona Avenue in Yuma.
