Students sports registration at risk in Brawley

BRAWLEY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - More than half of Brawley's youth soccer players and cheerleaders are at risk of dropping out.

Each student has to pay $450 to register.

The children who participate in this youth sports program are from six- to 12-years-old.

Currently, the program has only one sponsor, so they're looking for more companies and locals to help these young athletes.

"Roughly in the city of Brawley, about 60% of our youth that would like to participate in sports are unable to do so because they come from low-income families. With the help of sponsorships, we would really like to award at least half of that 60% the opportunity," said Elizabeth Cornell, Secretary for Brawley Youth Football.

The training runs from Monday through Friday, and it helps them stay active and safe.
