Singh Kaila wins 2025 Crim Smash Tennis Tournament

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma High School hosted the annual 2025 Crim Smash on Saturday, bringing together top high school tennis players from across the area.

The competition featured intense matchups, culminating in a hard-fought championship final.

Jagmohinder Singh Kaila, a sophomore from Yuma High School, emerged victorious after a comeback win against Marco Gutierrez of Yuma Catholic High School.

Kaila dropped the first set 5-7 but battled back to take the next two sets 6-2, 7-5, securing the championship title.

Gutierrez, also a sophomore, earned second place after a strong showing in the semifinals, where he defeated Jakub Kallinger of Gila Ridge High School 6-2, 7-6 (7-3). Kallinger, another sophomore, took third place in the tournament.

Kaila advanced to the final after winning his semifinal match by default against Yuma Catholic junior Austin Obika.

The tournament showcased the talent and competitive spirit of Yuma County's tennis players, with each athlete demonstrating skill and perseverance throughout the event.
