UFC superstar Conor McGregor launches presidential bid

(CNN, KYMA/KECY) - Former UFC champion Conor McGregor says he's gonna run for President of Ireland as a 36-year-old says he's running on an anti-immigration stance.

Ireland barely has more than five million residents in its country but saw more than 141,000 immigrants this year leading up to April of 2023.

That was the highest number in nearly 16 years.

In order to actually get his name on the ballot, McGregor would need at least 20 members of Parliament to nominate him.

That's very unlikely since his vehement anti-immigration views are very unpopular within the country.

The presidency in Ireland is largely a ceremonial role as the prime minister holds much more power within the country.
