City of Yuma files complaint against Yuma County and contractor
The City of Yuma is filing a complaint against Yuma County and the contractor responsible for the work at Ray Smucker Park.
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The complaint has not been served but it has been filed by the City of Yuma.
All parties are hoping to resolve the issues and restore the park to what it once was.
Yuma Mayor Doug Nicholls explains the point of the complaint.
"Make sure you just pursue these things that are in concern for us on the execution of the project, and that's it. We're not in an adversarial role with Yuma County," said Mayor Nicholls.
Due to the constant construction, parts of the park have been closed off, and some plants have died as well.
Local Yuman Isaiah Brown shares why he values the park.
"Finding things to do around Yuma and that's one of them you know going to the park, enjoying the weather right now before it gets too hot, so yeah I mean it's very important I believe to get back and running," said Brown.
The project they are currently working on is a flood control structure.
Mayor Nicholls has some words of encouragement for those worrying about the park.
"We do fully expect to restore the park as best as possible, but they'll be funding in order to help get the park back to where people expect it to be because of it where it's been for the last 30 years. It's a great park," said Mayor Nicholls.
As of March 4, in order to file a lawsuit, the city must first vote in an open session under Arizona's Open Meeting Law.
We reached out to the county, but they chose not to comment.
