CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Dust storm descends on New Mexico
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - Dust storm warnings were in effect for parts of central New Mexico Tuesday as the National Weather Service (NWS) predicted up to 75 mph wind gusts and low humidity.
The NWS warned of dangerous, life-threatening travel and "near zero visibility" in dust-affected areas Tuesday afternoon.
Footage shows conditions at the NWS's office in Albuquerque on Tuesday.
"Travel is highly DISCOURAGED in the ABQ metro through this evening due to visibility below a quarter-mile from blowing dust and dangerous crosswinds of up to 70 mph on north-to-south roads and highways," the weather service said.
The NWS warned that "any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly and will be hard to control."
