EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - An Imperial Valley city had decided to merge into a new healthcare district.

With three votes in favor and one to abstain, the El Centro City Council now has the greenlight to merge El Centro Regional Medical Center (ECRMC) into the Imperial Valley Healthcare District (IVHD).

Pioneers Memorial Healthcare will hold their vote to merge next Thursday. If approved, both hospitals will begin the process of a purchase agreement.

IVHD says there is no time frame as to when the process would be completed, but the hope is that it is sooner rather than later.
