Seven 4-H animals viciously killed by dog pack in Yuma

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Seven 4-H animals were killed by a pack of dogs in Yuma.

We spoke with the local farmer who shares more on what happened and the concerns knowing that some of these dangerous dogs are still on the loose.

Caitlyn Mann, the daughter of the owners of the farm, states, "Today, it was seven animals. Tomorrow, it can be someone older or a child. These are dangerous dogs that got the taste of blood and they will not stop."

Mann says she received a call at 7:00 a.m. Tuesday morning from the parent of a 4-H student who was there to feed her animal.

She was told six goats and one lamb had been attacked, three of them already dead.

"She walked into the gates here behind and walked into one of the most traumatizing things a child could walk into," says Mann.

The surviving animals were taken to a local veterinarian but the animals were so badly injured that they had to be euthanized.

The attack was carried out by a pack of two to four dogs, all but one who are still on the loose.

"These dogs didn't even have collars on so we can't even find the people responsible. There's over $10,000 of damage. One goat alone was $5,000. These kids have put everything they have and now they don't know what their next step is," adds Mann.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the 4-H and Future Farmers of America students who lost their animals in the attack.

The kids were preparing to showcase them at this year's Yuma County Fair.

"Share the page, donate if you can. That's really all we can do as a community is come together for these kids. They didn't deserve this but they deserve the community's help," Mann explains.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of these dogs, please contact the Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) immediately.
