YFD firefighters respond to house fire, saves cat’s life
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Yuma Fire Department (YFD) saved a cat's life after responding to reports of a house fire.
In a press release, the fire happened Monday before 3:00pm in the area of W. 21st Lane.
After arriving to the area, YFD says Yuma Engine 4 (YE04) found "heavy smoke coming from the garage" and found people who lived inside the home had evacuated.
YFD says YE04 "deployed hose lines" and battled the fire while crews searched the house to "ensure all occupants and pets made it out" of the home.

YFD says crews were able to stop the "fire spread to the area of origin and prevented extension into the home, but crews found and treated a small cat, who was unconscious due to smoke inhalation.
During that time, YFD says crews used "fido bags," a small oxygen delivery device "designed to provide oxygen to pets of various sizes in the event of smoke inhalation," to save the cat and return it to its family.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
