Calexico woman found dead in Mexico

MEXICALI, B.C. (KYMA, KECY) - A pregnant Calexico woman was found dead at a construction site in Mexicali, and the police are looking into who's responsible for her murder.

Mexicali police say the body of the 33-year-old woman was found on January 20.

They arrested a man on drug charges who they believe is also be tied to her murder, But he has not been charged yet.

Mexicali police, along with the Calexico Police Department (CPD) and the FBI, are also trying to figure out if the woman was murdered in Calexico or in Mexicali.

"We assisted the FBI in obtaining the search warrant for the victim's residence here in Calexico to rule out that the homicide did not take place in Calexico, and currently, the investigation is being handled by the FBI, so Calexico played a minimal role in the investigation other than filing a stolen vehicle report and search warrant with the FBI," said Calexico Police acting Lt. Sean Acuña.

The Mexicali Medical Examiner's Office says the victim had injuries throughout her body and was also 16 weeks pregnant at the time of the murder.
