Police search for the estranged wife of murdered Cal Fire captain

(NBC, KYMA/KECY) - Police are searching for the estranged wife of Cal Fire Captain Becky Marodi, who was found stabbed to death inside her home last week.

Yolanda Marodi spent 13 years in prison for stabbing her estranged husband to death in the fall of 2000.

She is now being sought by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Marodi's death, and they say she maybe in Mexico.

From the Vista Court archives, there were documents filed by then Yolanda Olejniczak, who was divorcing her husband James.

She checked the box irreconcilable differences, and made unproven claims about his behavior, demanding custody of the couple's two children. That was in the summer of 2000.

By the fall, James was stabbed to death, and his estranged wife went to prison for 13 years.

A quarter of a century later, she's accused of committing the same kind of murder. This time against her estranged wife, Becky Marodi.

Marodi was stabbed to death inside a home the couple shared for two years.

One week after the murder, her neighbors in Ramona and firefighters who worked alongside her in Riverside are raising money for what's left of Marodi's family.

"Nothing will replace not having her here," said Mindy Monor, whose husband is a firefighter, and she makes and sells apparel.

They are now selling T-shirts, and 100% of the profits will go to Marodi's family.

"It sounds so cliché but she would literally give the T-shirt off of her back, and what better way to have one than to honor her," Monor expressed.

Marodi loved motorcycles, so that's on the shirts, and so are angel wings, because to many, the Cal Fire captain was an angel.

"I myself was [taken] to the hospital at the end of last year. And she was there. and she rode with me in the ambulance to provide me comfort, and she stayed by my side while I was sitting on the gurney waiting to be admitted," Monor shared.

A fundraising push is also underway to pay for hay and feed for Marodi's horses.

According to police, "The motivation and circumstances surrounding this homicide remain under investigation."

At this time, officials suspect Yolanda Marodi could have traveled to Mexico.
