Yuma’s Palencia signs with Scottsdale CC

A Yuma High School softball standout commits to play at Scottsdale Community College.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Yuma's Elia Palencia signed her letter of intent to continue her academic and softball career at Scottsdale Community College on Monday.

Palencia signed in the Palace Gym in front of her friends and family. The senior was visibly emotional as she thanked her family, friends and coaches for their role in helping her on her way to this achievement.

"It was really hard to swallow," Palencia said. "I was choking up kind of it was really emotional and seeing people get emotional was making me emotional too. I honestly just felt happy. It was gonna be happy, if I did cry."

Last season Palencia hit .367 with eight extra base hits for the Lady Criminals. She plans to study psychology at SCC.
