Kofa Boys Soccer shuts out Brophy, advances to 6A State Semifinals
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - With a playoff win on the line, the Kofa Kings rose to the occasion on Saturday, blanking Brophy College Prep 2-0 to secure a spot in the 6A state semifinals.
This victory was more than just a playoff win. It was redemption. The last time these two teams met, Brophy dominated with a 4-0 result. But this time, Kofa's defense, led by standout goalkeeper Noah Lansford, kept the Broncos off the board from start to finish.
Lionel Rodriguez opened the scoring in the first half, putting the Kings ahead early. Later in the second half, Ivan Lopez capitalized on a rebound to seal the win.
With this result, Kofa has now won six of their last eight games, improving to an impressive 16-4 overall record. Meanwhile, Brophy College Prep ends their season at 11-8.
Next up, Kofa will take on Perry High School. The semifinal match is set for Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in Gilbert.
