Honoring and recognizing local educators for Black History Month

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The local NAACP chapter hosted their Celebrating Educator event in Yuma Saturday afternoon.

The event, which started at 1:00 p.m. at the MLK Youth Career Center, featured speeches by community leaders and local educators about the significance of continuing to empower the next generation.

Organizers, like Delsa D. Dixon, say motivating and inspiring students comes in many different forms.

"Really honor the educators, but at the same time, it took us down memory lane as to the value of what being in education does. It could be from the bus driver to the principal to the custodian because every one of them touches the child's life in one way or another," Dixon explained.

The event also included special musical performances, including classic gospel pieces and the Black National Anthem.

The event lasted until 5:00 p.m.
