Brawley police to hold DUI checkpoint on February 21
BRAWLEY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - A DUI checkpoint will be held on February 21 in Brawley.
The checkpoint will be open from 7 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Main Street.
Brawley police say the checkpoint is to promote public safety.
"Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk," Sergeant R. Gutierrez said. "Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety."
Brawley police add that DUI is not just from drinking alcohol, as prescription medication and other drugs can affect driving.
A first-time DUI offender may face an average of $13,500 in fines and a suspended license.
