Making A Difference: Local school recognized yet again
San Luis High School recognized for the 4th year in a row by Donor Network of Arizona
SAN LUIS, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY). The Donor Network of Arizona has recognized San Luis High School's Health Occupations Students of America program for their efforts in recruiting donors. This is the 4th year in a row that the school has placed in the top three schools in the state. HOSA connects students interested in the medical field with professionals and educators with the same skill set.
According to Miguel "Mikey" Nunez an SLHS sophomore studying to one day become a pediatrician the biggest challenge is dealing with negative stigmas attached to being a donor. Nunez, tells us that the reason he joined HOSA was because of a deep rooted passion for helping others. Angel Padilla a senior at SLHS found his calling after his grandmother became ill and he had to nurse her. Both students are part of the Emergency Medical Technician course at the school.
According to the Donor Network of Arizona in 2019 more than 3,000 donors were recruited by high school students.
