PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — Pakistani police say gunmen have fired on vehicles carrying Shiite Muslims in the restive northwest, killing at least 42 people and wounding 20 others. Thursday’s attack happened in Kurram, a district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province where clashes between majority Sunni Muslims and minority Shiites have killed dozens in recent months. A police official said the vehicles were traveling in a convoy from Parachinar to Peshawar when gunmen opened fire. No one immediately claimed responsibility. Shiite Muslims make up about 15% of the 240 million population of Sunni-majority Pakistan.
