Yuma’s 4th of July celebration at Desert Sun Stadium

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The City of Yuma is hosting a Fourth of July celebration Thursday at the Desert Sun Stadium.

The event included a DJ, foam party, vendors, and of course a firework show.

City special events coordinator, Brissa Garcia, explains how they must prepare for the night show.

"For any event with the City of Yuma, we have to have meetings with Fire and YPD," said Garcia. "We have to make sure that any event that happens in the city is safe.”

The people behind the scenes say there is a lot of preparation that goes into making sure everyone stays safe.

"With the fireworks, we have to make sure that our fire marshall makes sure that the fireworks, when they go up in the sky, we have a fallout zone," said Garcia. "We need to make sure that fall out zone doesn’t get where people are walking or near homes.”

The city says they have even more fireworks than the year before. Fortunately for them, they have a well experienced pyrotechnic who has been helping them for 25 years.

"It brings together a sense of unity, right? Yuma strong. Everybody always supports Yuma within Yuma. So it’s critical that the city and community continue to put on these type of events, so everyone can come together and support each other," said local Yuman Tyler Claar.

The gates open at six and fireworks begin at 9:00pm. Stadium seats are limited, so you can bring a blanket or lawn chair to enjoy the show.
