State Route 98 reopens with improvements

CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - All lanes on State Route 98, between W. Birch and E. Birch Streets and Imperial Avenue, have reopened, according to Caltrans.

The completion of this project marks the "last phase of $70 million infrastructure investments in Calexico," says Caltrans in a press release.

“We thank Calexico and the Mexicali-Imperial region for their patience during construction,” said Everett Townsend, Acting District 11 Director. “This project brings the binational vision of efficient cross border mobility between California and Baja California closer to reality.”

Improvements to SR-98 include:

  • Resurfacing the pavement
  • New turn lanes
  • Drainage system
  • Bicycle lanes
  • Streetlights
  • Pedestrian ramps

The project was funded by a mix of state, federal and local dollars.
