CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The Calexico City Council shuffle continues this time with the vote of a new mayor.
After a recall election, now only three members are on the council, and changes continue including a new mayor.
The Calexico City Council meeting was packed Wednesday night.
Councilmembers Camilo Garcia and Javier Moreno voted in favor of removing Gloria Romo as mayor.
However, Romo accepted the vote by also voting in favor but said she didn’t understand the motive.
“I think I am going to listen to the motives but as of right now, I have not heard a reason why Mr. Moreno that after one year I was encouraging him to be mayor and he was voting along with Mr. Ureña and with me because that was his interests. He is one of the main people that thinks I should leave the mayor seat," shared Glorio Romo, Calexico City Council.
After the vote, Garcia became the new mayor.
Garcia said he wants to focus on the city’s needs.
“Now we have to make sure we work together that we really concentrate on our city. Bring back our city. Bring it to Calexico that people used to talk about and I hear that, I hear that loud and clear. We have to engage with the community, we have to make sure we respond to the community because we work for them," stated Calexico Mayor Camilo Garcia.
Mayor Garcia said the applications to fill those two vacant seats are now available for the public.Â
The last day to turn in your application will be on Thursday, May 23, after that a special meeting will be held.
"It will be an open process. People will you know come up and be interviewed you know by council and then we will decide who will join the team," said Mayor Garcia.
We also contacted City Councilmember Javier Moreno, however, he declined to speak to us.
