Imperial County Supervisor candidates speak out

IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Although ballots are still being counted, the county is seeing history in the making.

It’s been over 40 years since Imperial County had a woman as a board supervisor and now it looks like there will be two.

Candidates Margarita Price and Martha Cardenas-Singh shared their reactions following the latest results. 

“I have to say that I am very proud of the campaign that I ran with dignity and respect. I see this as all though the official results are pending. I see this as a great opportunity to send out a message that I had internment access to social media recently," shared Margarita Price, candidate for Imperial County Supervisor for District Three.

“I am very excited and very happy although we know this is preliminary. This is preliminary reporting. We are really excited about where we are standing as far as our campaign is concerned. We are just really excited about the process of being going through the candidate process and really just taking that opportunity to lead," stated Martha Cardenas-Singh, candidate for Imperial County Supervisor for District Two.

The Elections Office continues to count ballots and said it can take up to 30 days for the final results.

“I would like the process to know that this is a process we have 30 days to certify an election and sometimes it does that full 30 days if the turnout is high I know this turnout is relatively low… But people need to understand there are multiple ways of voting and voting takes time so we are doing everything that we can to do this in a very accurate matter," explained Linsey Dale, Imperial County Registrar of Voters.

The elections office says turnout is currently at 10 percent and in prior primary elections, the turnout was about 25 percent.
